In 2021 they decided to set up a foundation for this purpose. Mahbooba Menapal and Mahmood Menapal have been living in the Netherlands with their families since 2000 / 2012. As doctors and medical coordinators for refugee camps in Pakistan and around the world both were employed by UNHCR and Médecins Sans Frontières for many years. Until they had to flee themselves.
