In collaboration with education and human rights champions, EDN contributed to the December 2024 policy paper on women’s public health education in Afghanistan. This vital document highlights the Taliban’s ban on women in public health training, a policy that exacerbates healthcare disparities and violates fundamental human rights. EDN continues to support innovative education solutions, including online learning and partnerships with civil society, to ensure Afghan women have access to essential training and opportunities.
Demanding UN Accountability for Afghan Women’s Rights
In a strongly worded letter, EDN and its partners criticized the UN’s normalization of the Taliban’s education ban and called for a robust UN presence in Afghanistan. The letter urged the UN to advocate for formal education for girls and reject madrassas as a substitute, reinforcing the need for genuine human rights-focused leadership in UN missions.
